I can't believe it. The girls turned 2 August 5, 2007, and I'm now finally starting the new blog that I promised. And I'm doing it purely for selfish reasons so that I have documentation of all the wonderful, cute things the girls say and do on a daily basis.
People refer to the developmental stage of a two year old as the "terrible twos". I'm hear to tell you that the terrible twos are not so terrible. My girls cuteness has expanded exponentially since they were born and they seem to be at peak cuteness right now. I can't imagine them being any cuter.
I love having little girls, and two is better than one. They play together (and occaisionally fight), they care for each other, and are there for each other. If you are having twins, don't listen to all those nay sayers. They are full of crap when they will muse "twins? I wouldn't wish that on anybody..." (My boss actually said that).
With a singleton, you don't get this...
One morning, my husband, bless him, let me sleep in until 7 am (that's right, as all new moms know, that is the new definition of sleeping in). Since he had to get ready for work (and me too), I got up and made my way down stairs. The girls were running around screaming and chasing each other. They haden't seen me yet. They both rounded the corner and Ariella ate it and fell, and Raquel bent down and said "kay sis?" and gave her her hand to help her up.
When Raquel cries, Ariella tries to comfort her by giving her a "blanky" or her "bunny", or whatever she thinks will do the trick.
It's not all sunshine and roses though. Just this morning there was an incident with a stick at the park. Raquel thought Daddy should pick it up. Ariella decided she would pick it up and Raquel yanked it out of her hand. Ariella's feeling got very hurt over the incident and there was alot of crying.
Ariella is a sweet and very loving little soul, but she's got a bad side and does not hesitate to get physical with Raquel if she gets mad at her. Raquel really seems to be "into" herself more, to the extent a 2 year old can be that way.
For example, I said to Ariella "come here gorgeous" and Raquel looked at me, smiled and said "Georgous too".
Raquel has really become attached to me and "Mommy" must do just about everything for her. I figure this is just a stage and she'll grow out of it. Afterall, Daddy was the one allowed to retrieve the stick this morning.
Every day they do something to make me laugh and smile. Yesterday, she was at my mothers, and she told her dog Britney she "need a kiss", just like her daddy says to her.
I'm astonished at how they observe and repeat our behavior. One weekend, I had taken Raquel on errands while Ariella was napping. The next thing you know, she is playing in her Little Tykes car, and she rolls into the house and in frustration says, ever so emplatically "Damnit!" Guess Mommy taught her that one.
Fortunately, they forget these things after a while if you ignore it. For about a month she would say "Oh shit!" everytime she dropped something. Her babysitter taught her that one.
Being a mother, and a mother of twin daughters, is wonderful. The only thing that is lacking - time.
Funny thinkg is, I decided to name this blog based on a saying that I heard on Hell's Kitchen. Chef Ramsey yelled at one of the contestants who was dogging it that he needed to "Find a NEW GEAR!!!"
And when I had the girls, I realized, I needed to find a new gear. That new gear has somehow eluded me I must tell you. I'm not any more organized than I used to be. I'm more tired than I used to be. I do crave a day when I can just sit around and do NOTHING. But those days are far behind me, thank heavens.
As you recall, I used to spend all my "free" time trying to get pregnant and being very pissed off b/c it wasn't working.
And to anyone struggling with infertility, I think my old blog (Enough Already) shows that there is hope. Most of the ladies that my blog links to have either successfully adopted or gotten pregnant and given birth one or more times.
Hopefully, I will be able to find that new gear and post regulary, regailing you with with tales of just how darn cute the girls are. pics to follow.
Edited to provide:
Maybe I should more appropriately name this blog "Searching for a new gear..." Maybe....
